The machine gun weighed about 20 kg and had to be used with a tripod. Therefore, it was not the easiest weapon to move around the battlefield. The machine gun could be used by six men, but in a defensive position could cause some serious casualties.
The Vickers gun was replaced by the Lewis Gun because of its flaws, but it was used throughout the war.
